Cyril To Allegedly Face Resignation As ANC President Over The Party Low Performance In Election Leas

The African National Congress did poorly in the 2026 local elections on November 4th, and ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has allegedly mentioned the idea of stepping down as party leader. The African National Congress (ANC) has suffered multiple electoral losses during Ramaphosa’s tenure as party president, prompting at least five high-ranking members of the NEC to allege that the president had proposed his resignation.

According to reports, the ANC leadership is under increasing pressure to explain the party’s dwindling popularity and reevaluate its political course. There are doubts about Ramaphosa’s ability to continue leading the governing party after he allegedly stated that two consecutive election defeats should have consequences. With the ANC encountering increasing difficulties in sustaining voter confidence and political influence nationwide, the leadership of the party has come under increased scrutiny following its underwhelming showing in the most recent local government elections.

It is not known if Ramaphosa has formally decided to step down or if the matter has been discussed through official ANC channels, but the reported suggestion of resignation does indicate potential tensions within the party’s top structures. If he were to leave, the African National Congress (ANC) would be in a precarious position, trying to rebuild its support base through internal political negotiations and maybe even a leadership contest.

The ANC’s National Executive Committee’s reaction to Ramaphosa’s most recent electoral losses and the rumored uncertainty surrounding his leadership continue to be the focal points of the increasing political speculation surrounding him. No official announcement from the ANC has confirmed a resignation as of yet.
