Shivambu welcomes party’s entry into municipal councils

Afrika Mayibuye Movement leader Floyd Shivambu says he is satisfied that his party has managed to establish its presence in municipalities in the 2026 municipal elections.

He was speaking at the National Results Operations Centre in Midrand after the official local government election results announcement.

Shivambu states that the party successfully achieved its main objective, despite being a newly formed political movement contesting its very first election.

“We as Mayibuye are satisfied with what we have achieved thus far. Now the confirmed number of seats that we have received is 57 seats in 34 municipality councils across seven provinces of SA. We are going to have a voice in how this government is constituted in the city of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, NMB and Tshwane and the city of Polokwane, Emfuleni as well.”
