‘We Told You’ Jacob Zuma Celebrates MK Party’s Strong Performance in KwaZulu-Natal

Early vote counts validated former South African president Jacob Zuma’s earlier political predictions, and he expressed satisfaction with the strong performance of his uMkhonto weSizwe Party in the 2026 local government elections.

During his conversation with reporters outside the Durban High Court on Friday, November 6, Zuma expressed his disbelief in the election results and reminded them that he had always insisted that his party would come out on top in KwaZulu-Natal.

The presiding judge had just denied Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla’s request to dismiss the charges of terrorism and public violence, and Zuma was present in court to support her. As vote tallying continued across the province, the ex-president maintained his concentration on the developing election results, despite the legal setback for his family.

According to the latest vote tallies, the MK Party is clearly the strongest party in KwaZulu-Natal, surpassing long-standing rivals like the Inkatha Freedom Party and the African National Congress.

Considering the region as one of its fundamental political bases for a long time, the ANC has long felt the impact of the momentum. While losing control of some city councils, the party was able to gain control of others, including important voting districts that had been ruled by their opponents.

Zuma, speaking about the future of strategy, said that the MK Party is open to coalition talks in order to form local governments if that becomes necessary. Improving conditions for everyday citizens and expanding the party’s role in governance are the primary goals, he stressed.

The official results will determine the final distribution of council seats and whether formal coalition partnerships are necessary, although preliminary figures indicate a significant change in the local political balance.

Sunday, November 8, will mark the official end of the MK Party’s inaugural campaign in the municipal elections, as the Electoral Commission of South Africa is scheduled to release the verified final figures.
