Crowd Erupts With Cheers as Methu Mentions Sifuna During Gachagua-Kalonzo Rally in Kitengela~Video

Kitengela town has erupted in loud cheers after Nyandarua Senator John Methu mentioned Edwin Sifuna’s name before a crowd gathered to see Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Gachagua has streamed the wider event on Facebook under the banner of a meet-and-greet tour of Kajiado County alongside Kalonzo where they’ve rallied for support ahead of 2027.

According to those accounts, Methu, who has served as secretary general of Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party, has put a playful question to the crowd.

He has asked residents whom they would pick if the choice came down to Kalonzo or President William Ruto, and the crowd has sided with Kalonzo. He has then repeated the test with Gachagua against Ruto, and again the answer has gone to Gachagua.

The mood has changed when Methu has brought Sifuna into the question, asking about a Gachagua and Sifuna choice. Loud cheers have followed, and locals have taken up chants of Sifuna’s name.

The reaction has fit a pattern that observers have noted for months. Sifuna, the Nairobi senator who has led the Linda Mwananchi movement, has drawn large crowds in towns across the country, and Kitengela itself has hosted one of his well-attended tours earlier this year.

Gachagua’s own post has drawn strong engagement too, with thousands of likes and comments on Facebook within the first hour.

Sifuna’s growing profile has complicated the opposition’s arithmetic ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua and Kalonzo have both called for a broad united front against Ruto, and yet the question of the opposition’s flag-bearer has remained wide open, while Sifuna’s supporters have pushed for their man to lead the ticket.

Allies of Gachagua and Kalonzo have, for their part, treated the gathering as a show of strength, pointing to the size of the turnout and the energy on the streets. Some observers have read the chants as a sign of where part of the crowd’s loyalties lie.
