An Unexpected Incident At Gachagua’s Rally Puts KPLC And Politics In The Spotlight
Political chants filled the air in Murang’a after electricity supply was reportedly interrupted during a public gathering attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua with supporters loudly chanting anti government slogans.
The gathering witnessed chants of “Ruto Must Go” and “Wantam” as Gachagua addressed residents creating a charged political atmosphere that reflected growing dissatisfaction among sections of the crowd with President William Ruto’s administration.
According to reports from the event, Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) reportedly intervened to rescue the electricity supply and keep the power equipment safe amid the unfolding situation.
The incident attracted attention as Gachagua continued delivering his political message to supporters in Murang’a, one of the key political battlegrounds in the Mt Kenya region.
The chants appeared to reinforce the opposition’s growing mobilisation efforts as political leaders increasingly turn their attention to the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua has been at the forefront of criticism against the Kenya Kwanza administration frequently accusing President Ruto of failing to honour promises made to Kenyans during the 2022 election campaigns.
His public appearances have also attracted considerable attention because of his efforts to consolidate support in Mt Kenya while building alliances with other opposition figures.
The slogans heard in Murang’a could further intensify the political debate surrounding Ruto’s popularity and the opposition’s strategy ahead of 2027.
However, it remains unclear what exactly prompted the reported electricity intervention and whether the interruption was directly connected to the political chants.
The incident has nevertheless added another talking point to the increasingly heated political contest.
