Isaya Yunge has emerged as a prominent figure in East Africa following his relationship and marriage to Charlene Ruto, the daughter of President William Ruto. The Tanzanian entrepreneur has attracted considerable public attention, with many people becoming interested in his professional background, achievements and personal journey.

Yunge, who hails from Mwanza, Tanzania, is a technology entrepreneur whose work focuses on developing innovative solutions to challenges facing African communities, particularly young people.

One of his notable ventures is SomaApps Technologies, the company behind SomaApp, an educational platform created to help African students access scholarship opportunities. Through the initiative, Yunge sought to make educational opportunities more accessible to young people across the continent.

His entrepreneurial interests also extend to other technological innovations. He has been associated with KAYA, an artificial intelligence-powered smart speaker designed to gather Africa-related information, as well as Somafit, a smartwatch developed to monitor health indicators, including blood pressure and heart rate.

His contributions to technology have earned him several international recognitions. In 2017, his startup won the Best Startup in Africa award during the GSMA Mobile Money Africa Hackathon. He was also recognised by Forbes Africa through its prestigious 30 Under 30 list.

Away from entrepreneurship, he has participated in youth leadership initiatives, having served as chairperson of Tanzania’s Junior Council and a UNICEF Africa Youth Ambassador.

His relationship with Charlene further raised his public profile. The couple held their traditional Koito ceremony on August 8, 2026, at Intonna Heritage Farm in Kilgoris, Narok County, before celebrating their white wedding in Mwanza, Tanzania, on November 6, 2026.
