There Was A Time My Wife Couldn’t Afford Money For Drugs, An Ex-Gov Earns N1.5M Monthly -Amaechi
ADC vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has promised to publicly share some of the difficulties he experienced during his political career if he becomes vice president
In an interview with Mainland 98.3 FM’s The Situation Room programme in Lagos, Amaechi revealed that there was a time his wife could not afford money to buy medication, despite his position in public office.
Amaechi said public office holders don’t earn enough to make them wealthy. He said a former governor receives about 1.5 million naira monthly. He said if a governor saves the entire monthly salary for 8 years, the total amount would still not be enough to buy a car.
In Amaechi’s words: “I pray to God that we win. I will come publicly and tell you what I passed through in my political career. If I am vice president I will want to go on live TV and tell Nigerians that there was even a time that my wife couldn’t afford money for drugs. You expect every Nigerian who occupies public office to steal. If not what is the salary of a former Speaker or a former Governor? A former governor earns 1.5 million naira, multiply it by 12 and multiply it by 4 and multiply it by 8. It can’t buy you a car”
