Sundowns Ladies Keep Third CAF Champions League Title Dream Alive With 3-0 Win
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have secured their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League after recording an impressive 3-0 victory over Moroccan side FUS Rabat at Ismailia Stadium in Egypt on Saturday afternoon.
The South African champions produced a strong performance to collect their second win of the tournament and finish their Group A campaign at the top of the standings. Godfrey Sapula’s team ended the group stage with seven points from three matches, having recorded two victories and one draw.
The result also confirmed their progress to the last four as they continue their campaign to win a third CAF Women’s Champions League title.
Sundowns Ladies started the match with confidence and immediately put pressure on the Moroccan side. Boitumelo Rabale had an opportunity to give her team an early advantage in the fifth minute, but her effort was stopped by the FUS Rabat goalkeeper.
The forward continued looking for an opening and tested the goalkeeper again just two minutes later. However, the Rabat shot-stopper produced another save to prevent Sundowns Ladies from taking the lead.
Despite missing those early opportunities, the South African side remained on the front foot and continued searching for the opening goal.
Their pressure eventually paid off when Bambanani Mbane found the back of the net. The defender connected with a header that went off the post before crossing the goal line to give Sundowns Ladies a deserved 1-0 lead.
FUS Rabat attempted to find a response before the half-time break, but Sundowns goalkeeper Andile Dlamini played an important role in protecting her team’s advantage.
Dlamini was called into action in the 40th minute when she faced a dangerous one-on-one situation. The goalkeeper reacted well to make an important save and ensure that her team went into the break with a narrow lead.
The second half continued with Sundowns Ladies looking to increase their advantage and make sure of the three points. However, they had to wait until the closing stages to find their second goal.
Nthabiseng Majiya eventually extended the lead in the 86th minute with an excellent finish that left FUS Rabat with a difficult task of recovering from the two-goal deficit.
There was still time for another goal before the final whistle. Karabo Dhlamini stepped up to take a penalty in the 90th minute and converted successfully to make it 3-0.
The victory gives Sundowns Ladies an important boost heading into the knockout stages of the competition. Having finished top of Group A with seven points, they have shown consistency throughout the opening phase of the tournament.
Sapula’s team will now shift their attention to the semi-finals, where they will be looking to continue their impressive continental campaign.
The South African club has already won the CAF Women’s Champions League twice and will be hoping to add another continental trophy to their collection. Their qualification for the semi-finals keeps that ambition alive as they move closer to another opportunity to compete for African honours.
