“ANC Voters Went To ActionsSA While EFF Votes Went To The DA” ANC SG Fikile Mbalula Revealed

African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has offered an assessment of changing voting patterns following the party’s disappointing performance in the 2026 Local Government Elections, suggesting that former ANC supporters shifted their allegiance to ActionSA while some EFF voters moved towards the Democratic Alliance (DA).

The remarks come as South Africa’s political landscape undergoes significant changes following an election that has exposed the declining influence of some established political parties and the growing appeal of their competitors.

The ANC, which has governed South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994, suffered a major electoral setback, losing support in several municipalities and facing increased competition from opposition parties. The results have intensified discussions about the reasons behind the party’s declining support and the extent to which voters are abandoning their traditional political affiliations.

Mbalula’s assessment points to two significant movements within the country’s political landscape. On one hand, ActionSA appears to have attracted voters who previously supported the ANC, particularly in communities where dissatisfaction with service delivery and municipal governance has become increasingly pronounced. On the other hand, the DA appears to have benefited from voters who previously supported the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
