Stephanie Ruto: Inside the life of the president’s daughter who caught Kenyans’ attention
Stephanie Jepchumba Ruto has largely stayed away from the public spotlight despite being part of President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto’s family.
Unlike her sister Charlene Ruto, who has embraced public engagements and youth-focused initiatives, Stephanie has maintained a relatively private lifestyle, focusing on her professional interests and family.
She recently caught the attention of Kenyans after appearing alongside her sisters during Charlene’s white wedding to Tanzanian entrepreneur Isaya Yunge at Malaika Beach Resort in Mwanza, Tanzania, on Friday, November 6, 2026.
The wedding offered a rare glimpse into the life of a woman who has repeatedly expressed her preference for working away from politics and public attention.
Stephanie is among the children of William and Rachel Ruto and is reported to be their fourth-born child.
Although she rarely discusses her personal life publicly, a few appearances and interviews have offered insights into her interests and upbringing.
During a World Children’s Day event in 2024, Stephanie spoke about her love for cycling, an interest she developed while growing up in a farming settlement where bicycles were used for everyday errands.
She also revealed that chapati was her favourite food, sharing some details about how she prepares the Kenyan delicacy.
Stephanie graduated from Strathmore University with a Bachelor of Laws degree on June 28, 2019. Her parents attended the graduation ceremony, with her father publicly congratulating her on the achievement.
She later joined the Kenya School of Law’s Advocates Training Programme for the 2020–2021 academic year.
Stephanie has described herself as a children’s officer, with a particular interest in protecting vulnerable children.
In February 2026, she made a rare public appearance when she represented her family at a fundraiser for St Mary’s Rehabilitation Centre in Mbiuni, Machakos County.
She delivered a Ksh3 million donation on behalf of her father and explained that she had been selected because of her work with children.
During her address, Stephanie clarified that she was not a politician and did not speak publicly often, emphasising her interest in supporting children’s welfare.
