Queen Máxima Visits Ghana To Champion Financial Health And Agribusiness

Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands has visited Ghana to champion financial health and agribusiness as part of her role as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health.

The Queen, during her working visit, toured Ghanaian agribusinesses working with IDH Ghana to see how locally led enterprises connect smallholder farmers to markets, finance, and sustainable production.

She visited pineapple farms and interacted directly with farmers and agribusiness leaders, where she listened to their challenges and success stories in accessing loans, insurance, and better prices.

Queen Máxima stressed that financial health is key to helping farmers grow their businesses, improve their incomes, and secure food for their families.

According to her, many smallholder farmers in Africa work hard but still struggle because they lack access to affordable credit, savings tools, and insurance to protect them against bad weather and market shocks.

She commended IDH Ghana and its partners for supporting local companies to build strong value chains that benefit farmers.

The Queen also held discussions with government officials, financial institutions, and private sector players on how Ghana can improve financial inclusion for farmers and rural communities.

She noted that when farmers are financially healthy, the entire economy grows because they can invest in better seeds and equipment for their children.

Ghana’s Minister for Food and Agriculture, who joined the tour, assured the Queen of government’s commitment to supporting agribusiness and smallholder farmers.

Queen Máxima’s visit is expected to strengthen Netherlands-Ghana relations and attract more investment into Ghana’s agriculture sector now
