Ghanaian Nurse Faces NMC Invitation After Allegedly Livestreaming Pregnant Woman in Distress

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is expected to invite a nurse for questioning next week following a controversial TikTok livestream allegedly showing a pregnant woman in distress at a hospital.

The Ministry of Health’s Public Relations Officer, Tony Goodman, disclosed this in a Facebook post on Friday, November 6, 2026, indicating that the Council had begun following up on the incident and would engage the nurse over the matter.

The development comes amid growing public concern about patient confidentiality, professional ethics and the responsibility of healthcare workers to protect the privacy and dignity of patients, particularly those in vulnerable conditions.

The controversy began after a Facebook user, Dickson Assan, reported the incident to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), saying he had come across the nurse’s TikTok livestream in the early hours of the day.

According to Assan, the broadcast showed a pregnant woman who appeared to be experiencing severe distress while receiving medical attention at a health facility.

He alleged that the person conducting the livestream, who appeared to be a nurse, was seen rubbing the woman’s back, seemingly in an effort to comfort her, while simultaneously broadcasting the incident to a TikTok audience.

The livestream reportedly attracted disturbing reactions from some viewers, including comments that mocked the nurse’s actions towards the distressed patient.

Assan further alleged that when a viewer questioned the decision to broadcast the condition of a vulnerable patient, other participants responded with insults instead of addressing the concerns.

He also claimed that the nurse displayed a Mobile Money (MoMo) number during the livestream and appealed for financial contributions while the pregnant woman remained in distress.
