Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma Responds With Sarcasm to Claims She Distracted Black Voters

Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has responded sarcastically after a social media user accused her of distracting black South Africans while the Democratic Alliance (DA) allegedly strengthened its political position through the Department of Home Affairs.

The discussion emerged following the DA’s performance in the 2026 local government elections, with some social media users attempting to explain the party’s gains through immigration and voter registration.

In the post, a user described the Minister of Home Affairs as the DA’s “secret weapon”, alleging that while Ngobese-Zuma was attracting attention among black South Africans, the department was allegedly helping to increase the number of white people in the country.

The user further claimed that having a place of residence and a South African identity document was enough to vote for the DA, raising concerns about the relationship between immigration, citizenship and electoral participation.

However, the claims were presented without supporting evidence in the post.

Ngobese-Zuma responded with a sarcastic remark, appearing amused by the suggestion that her activities had distracted a significant section of the black population.

“Bathong… you guys have been insisting o hold zero influence but here I was capable of distracting the entire black community ,” she wrote.

Her response turned the accusation into an opportunity to mock those who had previously suggested that she had little political influence.

The exchange comes amid wider discussions about the DA’s performance in several metropolitan areas and the changing political choices of South African voters.

Immigration has also remained a major subject of political debate, particularly around the role of Home Affairs in managing documentation, citizenship and the country’s borders.

However, South African electoral law does not allow every person with a place of residence or an identity document to vote. Voters must meet the legal citizenship and registration requirements.

Ngobese-Zuma’s response has added another exchange to the ongoing social media debate about her political influence, immigration and the factors behind the changing election results.
