Mako Finally Breaks Silence On Kaizer Chiefs Return Ahead Of Siewelele Clash
MAKO BREAKS SILENCE ON KAIZER CHIEFS RETURN AS AMAKHOSI RECEIVE MAJOR BOOST AHEAD OF SIEWELELE CLASH
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — Kaizer Chiefs defender Paseka Mako has provided an encouraging update on his recovery and return to competitive football as Amakhosi prepare for an important Carling Knockout quarter-final encounter against Siwelele FC.
The experienced left-back endured a frustrating setback during pre-season after suffering an injury that disrupted his preparations for the new campaign. However, Mako has gradually worked his way back into the team and is determined to regain his best physical condition as the season progresses.
Speaking through the club’s official media channels, the 32-year-old revealed that he is feeling stronger with every match and believes there is still more to come from him.
“I am getting to the physical level I want to be at. Game by game I feel stronger,” Mako explained.
His return represents an important boost for head coach Fernando Da Cruz, who needs experienced players as Chiefs attempt to navigate a demanding campaign.
Mako has also acknowledged that the squad remains united despite experiencing disappointing results in certain matches. He believes consistency and continued hard work will eventually produce the results that the team and its supporters deserve.
The defender’s comments come at a crucial moment for Amakhosi, who have already experienced disappointment in the MTN8 and CAF Confederation Cup competitions.
Consequently, the Carling Knockout represents another opportunity for the Soweto giants to challenge for silverware and restore confidence among their supporters.
Chiefs booked their place in the quarter-finals after producing an impressive 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy, with Wandile Duba scoring a memorable hat-trick.
Their next challenge will be Siwelele FC, an opponent Mako believes deserves considerable respect.
“We aim to win this trophy, but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves, and all that is on our minds is to get through this quarterfinal,” he said.
The defender added that his teammates must concentrate on implementing the technical team’s instructions and imposing their style of football throughout the encounter.
The quarter-final will take place at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday, 8 November 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00.
For Mako, the immediate priority is helping Chiefs progress to the semi-finals rather than making premature promises about lifting the trophy.
His improving fitness and determination could prove valuable as Amakhosi pursue another opportunity to bring silverware back to Naturena.
