More Head Coaches to Be Fired Before Mid-Season—Details Emerge
REVOLVING DOOR! HALF OF PSL CLUBS SHAKE UP TECHNICAL TEAMS BEFORE MID-SEASON
Eight Betway Premiership clubs have already parted ways with their head coaches as pressure mounts across South African football just months into the 2026/27 campaign.
The 2026/27 Betway Premiership season is barely approaching its halfway mark, yet the managerial merry-go-round is already gathering momentum, with eight of the 16 top-flight clubs having undergone changes in their technical departments.
In what has become an increasingly familiar trend in South African football, club executives are wasting little time making difficult decisions as they search for improved performances, consistency and better results.
The latest developments underline the enormous pressure facing coaches in the country’s top division, where a disappointing run of results can quickly put even the most promising technical projects under scrutiny.
Sekhukhune United were among the first clubs to make a significant change, parting ways with Cedric Kaze following an unsatisfactory start to the campaign. Marumo Gallants also ended their relationship with Phuti Mohafe, while Durban City separated from Khalil Ben Youssef.
Elsewhere, Golden Arrows brought their association with Simo Dladla to an end, while TS Galaxy restructured their technical department following Bernard Parker’s difficult start as head coach.
Siwelele FC also made headlines after parting ways with Lehlohonolo Seema, adding another name to the growing list of coaching departures.
The situation has been equally challenging at Richards Bay, where Ronnie Gabriel resigned from his position, while Polokwane City were dealt another unexpected setback following Willy Moloto’s resignation.
Moloto’s departure was particularly surprising, coming shortly after his return to training following health complications that had kept him away from the dugout.
According to reports published on 3 November, these eight clubs had already experienced coaching departures after approximately 10 league matches.
The developments raise important questions about patience, long-term planning and the growing demand for immediate success in South African football.
While some clubs may argue that managerial changes are necessary to rescue their campaigns, frequent technical-team restructuring can also disrupt player confidence, tactical consistency and the overall direction of a football project.
Interestingly, several other Premiership clubs have maintained stability in their dugouts, including Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu and Stellenbosch FC.
With plenty of football still to be played, the coming weeks could prove decisive for several under-pressure coaches.
For now, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: in the Betway Premiership, the revolving door is spinning faster than ever, and no technical team can afford to take its position for granted.
