Bomfa gets new chief after 8 years
The Omanhene of the Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Otuo Siriboe II, has accepted the selection of a 62-year-old businessman, Nana Kwame Agyeman Opambuor I, as the new Chief of Bomfa, a community in the Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
Nana Opambuor I was formally presented by the family head of the Aduana royal family to the paramount chief and his elders at a ceremony held last Monday at the omanhene’s palace.
In accordance with customs and traditions, Nana Opambuor I swore the oath of allegiance to the omanhene, marking the beginning of his reign as the new chief in the community, which had been without a substantive chief for eight years.
The then Chief, Nana Opoku Acheampong, was customarily deposed after he was found guilty by the judicial committee of the traditional council of some allegations levelled against him by his subjects, which was upheld by the committee.
Addressing the new chief, Daasebre Siriboe II, underscored the significance of the Bomfa stool to the customs and traditions of the traditional area, as it was only the Bomfa chief who visits the Baanmu (sacred royal mausoleum and burial grounds) in the absence of the Baanmu chief.
He said, “the stool you occupy is very unique and important to us as a people.
You must, therefore, lead by example to safeguard the traditions of the traditional area” and further advised him to be truthful and accountable to earn public trust.
“You have been selected by your elders primarily to come and serve your people and not to lord over them.
Always remember that you are the first servant in the community and you must remain as such to have a successful reign,” he said.
He further charged the elders to offer the needed guidance and support to the new chief to enable him to navigate his way in the discharge of his duties towards the growth and development of the community.
He said, “as elders, you have a sacred duty to offer wide counsel to enable the new chief to serve the people well. You have a pivotal role to play in directing Nana Opambuor I to serve in a manner that will bring honour to the community”.
Nana Opambuor I pledged to discharge his traditional responsibility with humility, respect and dedication and further promised to champion the development of the community for the benefit of the people.
He said the health facility in the community needed to be upgraded to provide the needed healthcare services to residents within the area and said, “I will work closely with relevant authorities towards the provision of additional infrastructure at the facility”.
He urged the people to rally behind him and provide the needed support towards addressing the developmental challenges confronting the community and also advised the youth to be serious about their education and acquisition of skills to improve their lives.
