AMA to remove traders from bus stops on November 9 ahead of Christmas
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced plans to remove traders operating at bus stops across Accra from Monday, November 9, 2026, as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion ahead of the Christmas festivities.
Accra Mayor, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, disclosed that the Assembly had held discussions with the Minister of Local Government, the Ghana Union of Traders Associations (GUTA), and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to ensure smooth traffic flow and orderliness on the streets during the festive season.
He explained that the exercise is aimed at clearing bus stops and other unauthorised trading spaces to allow commuters and motorists to move freely.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for Korle Klottey Alfred Allotey-Gaisie has revealed that traders operating at key bus stops, particularly around Kingsway and the Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) area, will be affected by the exercise.
The MCE further indicated that some busy roads within the Korle Klottey Municipality will be blocked to create designated spaces for trading activities during the Christmas festivities.
The initiative forms part of measures by the authorities to decongest major roads, improve traffic management, and ensure a more organised trading environment as Accra prepares for the Christmas season.
