Yvonne Okwara Sets Record Straight On Whether She Is Relocating to London After New Appointment

Veteran journalist Yvonne Okwara has dismissed claims that her new role at Shuga Global will require her to relocate to London, clarifying that she is not moving out of Kenya.

Okwara addressed the speculation in an interview with TUKO.co.ke after reports emerged suggesting she would be leaving the country following her appointment at the creative industry organisation.

The journalist officially left Citizen TV on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, bringing her eight-and-a-half-year stint at the station to an end.

Her departure attracted attention from viewers and colleagues, many of whom had followed her work as one of the station’s prominent news presenters.

A day after her exit, Shuga Global announced that Okwara had joined the organisation as its Head of Investments and Partnerships.

The appointment marked a new chapter in her career, moving her into a role focused on investment and partnerships within the creative industry.

However, news of the new position was quickly followed by claims that she would be relocating to London to take up the job.

Okwara moved to address the reports directly, dismissing the suggestion that she was leaving Kenya.

“I am not moving to London, though. You should stop reading the blogs,” Okwara said, responding to the speculation.

Her clarification put to rest the claims about an immediate move to the British capital, although she did not provide further details about the working arrangements for her new position.

The appointment comes after several years in television journalism, where she built a public profile through her work at Citizen TV.

Her move to Shuga Global signals a shift from her familiar newsroom role to a position in the creative sector, where she is expected to focus on investments and partnerships.

The organisation’s announcement came shortly after her departure from the station, making the transition one of the notable developments in her professional career.

While the London relocation claims circulated following the appointment, Okwara’s response made clear that she was not planning to move to the city.
