“Remove the Poverty Mindset?” Mutahi Ngunyi Reminds Kikuyus What Moi Failed to Do in 24 Years

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has sparked fresh political debate after sending a strong message to the Kikuyu community while responding to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s remarks about President William Ruto’s possible re-election in 2027.

Ngunyi questioned why the community should fear another five years under Ruto, arguing that its history shows it has endured much longer and more difficult political periods.

In his message, Ngunyi reminded Kikuyus that they survived nearly 90 years of colonial rule and 24 years under former President Daniel arap Moi.

He questioned how five more years under Ruto could destroy a community that had overcome such difficult times.

He wrote, “How will Ruto destroy you in five years when he is re-elected?” He also urged the community to change its mindset and make decisions based on its interests.

Ngunyi did not spare Gachagua in his response.

He dismissed the former Deputy President’s remarks, describing them as falling below the level of acceptable political reasoning.

He went further by using harsh language against him and urging Kikuyus to do what he considers the right thing rather than allow fear to influence their political choices.

The exchange comes after Gachagua spoke about the possibility of Ruto securing another term in 2027.

The former Deputy President has repeatedly raised concerns about the political direction of the Mount Kenya region and the need for the community to make careful decisions about its future.

Ngunyi’s latest remarks have added another dimension to the growing political debate over Mount Kenya’s support ahead of the next General Election.

As political leaders continue to seek the region’s backing, the question remains whether voters will follow Gachagua’s warnings or consider Ngunyi’s argument when deciding their political future.
