Danstan Omari Breaks Silence on Sifuna as Fresh Political Storm Erupts Over Kalonzo Heckling

Prominent constitutional lawyer Danstan Omari has launched a fierce attack against Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of promoting political intolerance and hostility towards leaders holding different opinions. He questioned Sifuna’s suitability for national leadership.

Omari’s criticism follows an incident in Nairobi where Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was heckled by a section of rowdy supporters during a political gathering, sparking fresh debate over divisions within opposition ranks.

Speaking while addressing the media, the lawyer expressed concern over the treatment of senior political leaders who hold independent positions or disagree with certain political decisions. He argued that such hostility threatens democratic principles.

The advocate particularly faulted the political atmosphere surrounding Sifuna and his supporters, describing their conduct as demeaning, intolerant and brutal towards individuals expressing alternative political views.

Omari maintained that Kenya cannot afford to entrust national leadership to individuals associated with intolerance, warning that political disagreements should never become excuses for intimidating or silencing opponents.

He further argued that effective leadership demands patience, respect for senior political figures and the willingness to engage with people holding different political opinions, regardless of their political affiliations or ambitions.

According to Omari, the heckling directed at Kalonzo exposed troubling tendencies within the opposition, particularly regarding freedom of expression and the ability of political leaders to disagree without facing intimidation.

He warned Kenyans against supporting leaders who tolerate unruly political behaviour, insisting that crowd-driven intimidation and suppression of opposing voices have no place in a democratic society governed by constitutional freedoms.

The lawyer’s remarks have added another dimension to the growing debate surrounding opposition unity and leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election, with questions emerging over political tolerance and the future of emerging alliances.
