“Ruto Defeated You At Home, You Can’t Lecture Me” Gachagua Hits Back At Opposition Principal

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fresh attack on Democratic Party (DP) leader Justin Muturi, questioning his ability to mobilise voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua challenged Muturi to demonstrate his political influence at the ballot, citing an electoral contest in Evurore where he claimed a DP candidate secured only 35 votes against 238 garnered by a candidate associated with President William Ruto’s camp.

Speaking at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri on Tuesday, November 3, Gachagua questioned why Muturi was criticising his political strategy while allegedly struggling to deliver votes in his own backyard.

The former Deputy President argued that leaders seeking to unseat Ruto must first prove their ability to mobilise voters before questioning the electoral strength of others.

He particularly dismissed the idea that press conferences, hotel meetings and political declarations could translate into victory without direct engagement with voters.

“How can you lecture Riggy G about numbers if you cannot deliver your polling station at home? Kasongo defeats you at your own polling station,” Gachagua said.

He maintained that the 2027 presidential contest would be determined by numbers, insisting that any opposition arrangement must bring together at least 13 million votes to secure victory.

Gachagua also revealed that he had held discussions with several opposition figures, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, on their respective voter mobilisation targets.

He defended his proposal to consolidate support from the Mt Kenya region, Ukambani and Western Kenya, arguing that combining strong political bases was necessary to defeat Ruto.

The DCP leader further recalled the 2022 General Election, claiming that his mobilisation efforts had played a significant role in helping Ruto win the presidency before their political fallout.

His remarks followed criticism from Muturi, who accused him of undermining opposition unity by pushing regional political arrangements and personal interests.

Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i had also faulted Gachagua’s approach, warning that his emphasis on regional voting blocs could weaken efforts to unite the opposition behind a single presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, DCP National Organising Secretary Mithika Linturi urged Muturi and Matiang’i to concentrate on strengthening their political bases instead of engaging in public disagreements.
