Ablakwa Sues NPP’s Benghazi and Media General Over Fantana Affair, Stolen Funds Allegations
According to a report by Channel One News published on November 3, 2026, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has filed a lawsuit against New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team member Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, popularly known as Benghazi, and Media General Ghana Limited over allegations linking him romantically to musician Fantana and accusing him of giving her money allegedly stolen from public funds.
The legal action follows comments made by Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah during a discussion on Onua FM on October 14, 2026. During the broadcast, the NPP communicator described Fantana as the minister’s girlfriend and alleged that Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa had given her money he had stolen.
He further claimed that the minister and his wife would face imprisonment over the alleged misconduct. A writ of summons issued by the High Court of Justice in Accra on October 30, 2026, identifies Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as the plaintiff, with Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah and Media General Ghana Limited named as defendants.
Media General Ghana Limited owns and operates Onua FM and Onua TV, the media platforms associated with the broadcast. The writ requires the defendants to enter an appearance within eight days of being served. It also warns that failure to comply could result in judgment being entered against them in their absence.
The lawsuit comes after Media General issued a retraction and apology through Onua FM, the station on which the allegations were originally made.
The development brings the dispute over the allegations into the courts, where the parties will have the opportunity to address the issues through the legal process.
The case has attracted attention because it involves a sitting Foreign Affairs Minister, an opposition party communicator and a major media organisation. However, the allegations made during the broadcast remain claims and have not been established as facts by a court.
