Medikal Launches Brafie Programme As He Urges Ghanaians Abroad To Return Home
Ghanaian rapper Medikal has introduced a new initiative dubbed #Brafie, encouraging citizens living overseas who are struggling financially or finding life difficult abroad to consider returning to Ghana.
The musician made the appeal in a post on X, using fellow rapper Teephlow’s reported return to the country as an example for other Ghanaians contemplating a similar decision.
Addressing those living outside the country, Medikal wrote: “To all my brothers and sisters abroad, if ebi long for outside, come home like my brother Tee Flow just did. We are starting the #Brafie program now.”
The announcement suggests that Medikal wants to turn the message into an organised campaign encouraging members of the Ghanaian diaspora to reconsider their plans when life abroad becomes difficult.
However, he did not provide details about how the programme would operate, whether it would offer financial or logistical assistance, or how interested Ghanaians could participate. For now, his post has served as the public introduction of the initiative.
His comments have arrived at a time when conversations about the realities of living abroad have gained attention in Ghana, following the death of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong in the Bronx, New York.
Javits was fatally shot while walking to school on October 29, 2026. He had moved from Ghana to the United States about a year earlier to live with his father, while his mother remained in Ghana.
The tragedy attracted reactions from prominent Ghanaian musicians, including Medikal and Sarkodie, who expressed sadness over the teenager’s death. It also renewed public discussions about safety, the experiences of Ghanaians overseas and the challenges families face when loved ones live in different countries.
Medikal’s appeal, however, focuses on another aspect of the diaspora experience: the pressure some people encounter while trying to establish themselves abroad.
By pointing to Teephlow’s return, the rapper has encouraged Ghanaians who feel that their efforts overseas are not yielding the expected results to consider rebuilding their lives at home.
Whether #Brafie develops into a structured programme or remains a public campaign will depend on the details Medikal provides in the coming days.
