Abossey Okai spare parts dealers threaten legal action against MTN, other telcos over poor network services

The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has threatened legal action against MTN Ghana and other telecommunications network operators over persistent poor network services affecting businesses in the commercial hub.
In a statement dated November 1, 2026, the Association said recurring network interruptions, poor call quality and unreliable internet connectivity had disrupted business operations, resulting in missed opportunities, lost customers, delayed transactions and potential financial losses.
According to the Association, the network challenges have made it difficult for traders to communicate with customers, negotiate transactions, respond to enquiries and coordinate business activities with suppliers, importers and clearing agents locally and internationally.
The Association has consequently called on MTN Ghana and other operators to investigate the reported challenges, improve network coverage and service quality, explain the recurring disruptions and provide a clear timeline for addressing the problems.
It has also called on the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and the National Communications Authority (NCA) to intervene, investigate the complaints and ensure that operators meet their obligations to consumers.
The Association further stated that its president had formally communicated a legal warning to MTN Ghana through its Public Relations Officer, Mr Takyie Addo, indicating its intention to consider appropriate legal action if the concerns were not addressed.
However, it said it remained open to constructive engagement with the telecommunications companies to find a lasting solution, adding that it would pursue all lawful measures to protect the interests and livelihoods of its members if the situation persisted.
The Association maintained that reliable telecommunications services were essential to the operations of Abossey Okai, one of Ghana’s major automotive spare parts trading centres, and called for urgent action to address the situation.
