Man Deletes Social Media Account After Allegedly Leaving Nairobi Woman With KSh 10k Bill
A Nairobi woman has shared her embarrassing experience after a man she had been interacting with on social media allegedly invited her on a date before disappearing and leaving her with an unexpected KSh 10,000 restaurant bill.
Juliette Awata said she had agreed to meet the man, identified as Allan, after he repeatedly interacted with her social media posts and eventually invited her out for drinks and lunch.
According to her account, the two arranged to meet at a rooftop restaurant at Sarit Centre in Nairobi. Before accepting the invitation, Juliette said she checked his social media profile and found what appeared to be a genuine account featuring personal photographs and interactions with friends.
When she arrived at the restaurant, Allan was already seated and enjoying a drink. The evening initially appeared promising, with the man ordering her a cocktail and cheese fries as they settled into conversation.
Juliette described him as charming and said he complimented her several times during their interaction.
However, things took an unexpected turn when Allan started receiving phone calls. He first excused himself, saying the loud jazz music made it difficult to communicate at the table.
He later returned but stepped away again, claiming he needed to handle another matter over the phone.
After waiting for some time without seeing him return, Juliette became suspicious and asked a waitress whether the man had paid the bill.
To her shock, she discovered that Allan had allegedly disappeared without settling either his order or hers.
“I ended up paying a KSh 10,000 bill while I had only eaten KSh 1,550 worth of food,” she lamented.
The situation became even more uncomfortable when restaurant staff temporarily held her as they tried to establish the whereabouts of the man who had made the reservation.
Juliette said she unsuccessfully tried contacting Allan and eventually warned him that she would expose the incident if he failed to refund her money. She further claimed that he later deleted his social media account.
Speaking about the experience, she said she decided to share the man’s photographs to warn other women about the risks of meeting people they only know through social media.
Her ordeal comes months after another Nairobi woman was reportedly left with a KSh 77,300 hotel bill after a man allegedly ordered expensive drinks and food before disappearing.
