Kotoko fine Diogo Peral over Medeama touchline incident
Asante Kotoko have fined assistant coach Diogo Peral following his involvement in a controversial touchline incident during the club’s 1-1 draw with Medeama SC in the Ghana Premier League.
The Porcupine Warriors confirmed the internal disciplinary action in a statement issued on Monday, November 2, saying Peral had admitted that he could have handled the situation more professionally.
The incident occurred during Sunday’s Matchday Nine encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, when Peral was involved in a confrontation with Medeama player Ebenezer Adade.
The Portuguese coach was shown a red card after allegedly striking the Medeama player during the altercation.
Kotoko said although football could be an emotional sport, such situations should not undermine the professionalism and discipline expected of individuals representing the club.
The club stressed that Peral’s conduct fell below its standards and values, adding that the fine was intended to reinforce accountability and respect within the team.
The matter has also attracted the attention of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), which has charged Peral with an alleged breach of its Disciplinary Code.
He has until Wednesday, November 4, to respond to the charge and present his defence.
The GFA proceedings could result in further disciplinary action, separate from the sanction imposed by Kotoko.
