Polling Data Reveals JDM’s Mixed Approval Ratings in Ashanti Region Ahead of 2028
Political analyst Mussa Dankwah has shared survey findings indicating varying levels of support for President John Dramani Mahama across 14 constituencies in the Ashanti Region, a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The analysis shows that Mahama has negative net approval ratings in Old Tafo, Ejisu, Oforikrom and Bosomtwe, suggesting dissatisfaction with his performance among respondents in those areas.
Despite these challenges, the president received positive ratings in several constituencies, particularly Atwima Kwanwoma, where he scored 78%, followed by Asawase with 55% and Akrofuom with 53%.
The survey also found that local MPs generally enjoy greater approval than the president. In 12 of the 14 constituencies examined, MPs recorded higher net ratings. Subin led the rankings with 86%, followed by Akrofuom at 85%, Nsuta/Kwamang/Beposo at 83%, Asawase at 66% and Manhyia North at 63%.
At the other end of the rankings, Bosomtwe recorded -17%, while Ejisu had 7%, Afigya Kwabre North 13%, Old Tafo 19% and Effiduase/Asokore 20%.
One notable finding was the difference in Akrofuom, where the MP recorded an 85% rating compared with Mahama’s 53%. This suggests that voters may assess their local representatives differently from the president.
Dankwah said the survey results are being used in a predictive model to estimate future election outcomes. The findings point to both opportunities and potential difficulties for the ruling party as the 2028 elections approach.
