Ghana to Face Harsher Dry Season as Weather Experts Confirm Strong El Niño

Ghanaians should prepare for a tougher and hotter dry season this year. The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has officially confirmed that a strong weather pattern known as El Niño is currently in effect. According to a recent broadcast by JoyNews, this means the country will experience a harsher dry season starting from late November.

A social media user named Nana Aba shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) with a simple, worried caption: “Eiiii.” Her post quickly went viral, gathering over 41,000 views as many citizens reacted to the uncomfortable weather forecast. The news is especially concerning because the dry season in Ghana already brings dusty harmattan winds and hot temperatures, and El Niño is expected to make things even worse.

In the comments section, people expressed their frustration and tried to find a little humor in the situation. One user, Anthony Jnr Ahiable, joked about how unbearable the heat already is, writing, “Nana, this is the 8th time I’ve poured water on my body.” Another user simply laughed and commented, “A/C technicians rn,” suggesting that air conditioner repair workers are about to become very busy.

However, not everyone is taking the warning too seriously. One user named Urban Heritage found a silver lining in how GMet usually makes its predictions. They joked that whenever the weather experts predict something obvious, the exact opposite happens. The user wrote, “Thank God..i was waiting for them to tap in . meaning we going to have some rain soon, cuz anytime they come out to predict the obvious, we get the opposite.”

Despite the jokes, the message from the experts is clear: the dry season is coming in strong, and it is time to get ready. Citizens are advised to prepare for dusty air, intense heat, and very dry conditions. It is important for everyone to stay hydrated, stock up on essential items like nose masks and lip balms, and take extra care of their health as the weather changes.
