Ludwig Hlodze pledges to reconnect NDC leadership with grassroots

A former National Youth Organizer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Comrade Ludwig Hlodze, has intensified his campaign for the position of National Vice Chairman, promising to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, promote internal unity and ensure that ordinary members have a greater voice in its affairs.

Mr Hlodze, who currently serves as the NDC’s Director of Logistics and Protocol, is among 19 aspirants seeking election to the three National Vice Chairman positions at the party’s national delegates’ congress scheduled for Saturday, December 19, 2026.

The congress will be preceded by the party’s National Youth and Women’s Conference on December 12, 2026.

Drawing on his extensive experience within the NDC, Mr Hlodze has positioned himself as a candidate whose political journey has been defined by loyalty, sacrifice, organizational discipline and years of dedicated service to the party.

The former aide to the late President John Evans Atta Mills has been engaging delegates across the country, outlining his vision for a stronger, more inclusive and better-organized NDC capable of consolidating its electoral gains and sustaining its political dominance.

His campaign has taken him to Guan, Buem, Biakoye, Akan and Kpassa, where he has held meetings with party executives, delegates and grassroots activists.

Since last week, Mr Hlodze has also been touring parts of northern Ghana, meeting delegates and explaining why his experience, institutional knowledge and longstanding commitment to the NDC make him a suitable candidate for one of the three National Vice Chairman positions.

At the various meetings, he has emphasized the importance of reconnecting the party’s national leadership with its branches and constituencies, arguing that the strength of the NDC lies in its grassroots membership.

According to him, his years of engagement with party structures across the country have provided him with firsthand knowledge of the difficulties confronting ordinary members, particularly those who have remained loyal to the party through challenging political periods.

He pledged to champion a leadership approach that would ensure that every member, regardless of position or location, feels valued, heard and empowered to contribute meaningfully to the party’s development.

“From National Youth Organizer to Vice Chairman, I bring both experience and energy. My agenda is centred on unity, discipline, innovation and organizational capacity. I am here to serve, not to pursue personal ambition,” Mr Hlodze declared.

He explained that his decision to contest the position was motivated by a desire to strengthen the NDC’s organizational structures, deepen its relationship with communities, and promote greater collaboration between national executives and grassroots members.

Mr Hlodze maintained that the party’s continued electoral success would depend largely on its ability to maintain internal cohesion, reward dedication, encourage participation and address concerns at the constituency and branch levels.

He further pledged to promote the NDC’s longstanding commitment to social justice, inclusivity and people-centred governance.

His campaign is also drawing attention to his political history, particularly his active involvement in the NDC during the administration of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

During that period, Mr Hlodze distinguished himself as an outspoken party communicator, defending the NDC and articulating its positions at a time when some party activists and sympathizers were reluctant to speak publicly for fear of political harassment and victimization.

His supporters point to that period as evidence of his courage, political conviction and willingness to defend the party during difficult times.

Over the years, he has served in several important capacities, including Deputy National Youth Organizer and, subsequently, National Youth Organizer, after Haruna Iddrisu’s tenure.

These responsibilities have exposed him to the party’s organizational machinery, electoral mobilization strategies, and internal administrative structures.

Beyond his party responsibilities, Mr Hlodze also served as an aide to the late President John Evans Atta Mills, remaining in that role until the President’s death on July 24, 2012.

His association with the late President remains an important part of his political career, reflecting years of service within the NDC and its leadership.

As the December congress approaches, Mr Hlodze is expected to intensify his engagements with delegates across the country, seeking to convince them that his combination of grassroots experience, organizational competence and loyalty makes him a strong contender for the National Vice Chairman position.

With 19 aspirants competing for just three positions, the contest is expected to be keenly fought as candidates seek the endorsement of delegates who will determine the composition of the party’s next national leadership.

For Mr Hlodze, however, the campaign is not merely about securing a national executive position but about helping to build a more disciplined, united and responsive NDC that remains connected to the ordinary members whose sacrifices have sustained the party over the years.
