Gachagua Alleges Why Ruto Is Planning To Kick Out Kimani Ichungwa From The Govt

DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah is on the verge of being pushed out of leadership because he has allegedly failed to divide the Mt. Kenya region. Gachagua made the remarks in Ichung’wah’s own Kikuyu backyard.

According to Gachagua, the Majority Leader is being sidelined by President William Ruto’s camp over his inability to split the votes of Central Kenya. He did not present evidence that any move to remove Ichung’wah is under way, and nothing from the government confirms it. The claim is his own reading of the situation.

Gachagua also accused Ichung’wah of betraying the Mt. Kenya region through his support for the president. He argued that the MP has stood with Ruto at the expense of the people who elected him, and that he will be dropped once he is no longer useful. The comments were aimed at weakening Ichung’wah’s standing at home, where he is one of the most prominent government allies.

The statement fits a pattern in Gachagua’s recent speeches, where he has urged the region to remain united behind him. Moses Kuria has argued the opposite, saying the opposition’s problems come from its own divisions and not from any Mt. Kenya disunity. Gachagua has also drawn criticism for saying he would relocate to the United States if Ruto wins a second term.

Ichung’wah has not yet responded to the latest claim. As a close ally of the president, he is likely to dismiss it as political noise. His supporters in Kikuyu may argue that he has delivered development to the area, while Gachagua’s backers will see the remarks as a warning that loyalty to the government carries a price.

The exchange shows how fiercely the two sides are fighting for control of the Mt. Kenya vote ahead of 2027.
