Jacaranda Drama As Youths Allegedly Ferried To Chant ‘Ruto Tutam’ Left Stranded In Nairobi
There was drama at Jacaranda Grounds after a group of youths who were allegedly ferried to chant “Ruto Tutam” at ODM’s rally claimed they had been left stranded in Nairobi without pay.
According to reports, the youths who identify as Luo were allegedly transported from different parts of the city to the venue to chant slogans in support of President William Ruto during the ODM rally.
Videos circulating online show the group stranded on the streets of Nairobi late in the evening, complaining that they had not been paid their chanting allowances and transport back home.
In the clips, the youths are heard lamenting that they were promised money for attending the rally and chanting “Ruto Tutam” but were abandoned after the event ended.
“We were told to come and chant Ruto Tutam at Jacaranda. Now we have not been paid and we have no fare to go back home,” one of the youths is heard saying.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions online, with many Kenyans questioning the growing trend of ferrying crowds to political rallies for handouts.
Some ODM supporters claimed the group was planted to cause disruption at the rally, while others sympathized with them for being used and dumped by political brokers.
ODM had organized a major rally at Jacaranda Grounds to popularize the party’s agenda, but the rally was briefly interrupted by chants of “Ruto Tutam” from a section of the crowd.
It is still unclear who ferried the youths to the venue and who was supposed to pay them.
By the time of publishing, no official statement had been issued by ODM or any political leader regarding the stranded youths.
Police have not commented on the matter either.
