Jacaranda Drama as Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri Is Heckled and Forced Off Stage in Embakasi East
There was drama at Jacaranda Grounds after Kasarani Member of Parliament Ronald Karauri was heckled and forced off the stage while campaigning for the Nairobi Governor seat in Embakasi East.
The incident occurred during a political gathering that had attracted several leaders and supporters from across Nairobi County. The meeting was expected to be a platform for leaders to engage residents on development matters and the upcoming 2027 General Election.
According to eyewitnesses, trouble started when the Kasarani lawmaker took to the podium to drum up support for his gubernatorial ambitions. A section of the crowd began jeering and shouting him down, making it difficult for him to deliver his speech.
Attempts by organizers to calm the crowd proved futile as the heckling intensified, forcing Karauri to cut short his address and leave the stage under tight security.
Videos that have since surfaced online show a charged crowd shouting and waving, with some individuals chanting against the MP’s presence at the event. The situation caused a brief commotion before order was restored.
Sources indicate that the heckling may have been politically motivated, with some attendees opposed to his candidature for the Nairobi Governor seat. Others claim there are underlying tensions among Nairobi leaders over the control of Embakasi East, which is considered a key political battleground.
Karauri, who is serving his second term as Kasarani MP, recently declared his interest in succeeding Johnson Sakaja as Nairobi Governor in 2027. His entry into the race has added to an already crowded field of aspirants eyeing the capital’s top seat.
The former SportPesa CEO has been traversing different parts of Nairobi to popularize his bid, promising to focus on development, youth empowerment and improved service delivery if elected.
Despite the setback at Jacaranda, Karauri is yet to issue an official statement regarding the heckling incident. His supporters have however dismissed the incident as stage-managed by political opponents who are threatened by his growing popularity.
Political analysts say the incident highlights the increasingly competitive nature of Nairobi politics ahead of 2027, with aspirants facing tough crowds as they seek to win the hearts of city residents.
Security was later beefed up at the venue to prevent further disruption, allowing the meeting to continue after the MP had left the stage.
