Horse Worth Sh2 Million Dies On Karen Road After Violent Collision With Nissan Serena Driver

A horse valued at about Sh2 million was killed after being hit by a vehicle on Karen Road in Nairobi. KTN journalist Rodgers Otiso reported the incident in a Facebook post shared on 1 November 2026.

Otiso said the animal was struck by a Nissan Serena. Photographs posted alongside the report show the brown horse lying motionless on the roadside. A white Nissan Serena and a red vehicle are parked nearby and several people have gathered at the scene.

A damaged green metal structure is also visible close to the spot. The surroundings are made up of trees and hedges typical of the residential area.

The accident happened along the dual carriageway section of Karen Road. The route is busy and passes through an upmarket Nairobi suburb known for horse riding and residential estates.

The initial report did not give the exact time of the collision. It also did not state the condition of the vehicle’s occupants or who owns the horse.

Otiso’s post quickly drew attention online. Many people raised concerns over road safety in areas where animals share space with motor traffic. Karen and nearby parts of Nairobi have a long link with stables and equestrian activity. That makes such accidents more notable when valuable animals are involved.

Police and other authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances of the crash. No official statement has confirmed the value of the horse. There has also been no word on any action taken against the driver of the Nissan Serena.

The incident highlights the challenge of managing mixed traffic on Nairobi’s roads. Residential and recreational activities often meet vehicle movement in such areas.
