Gachagua Rejects Elders Push To Reconcile Him With Uhuru, Says Focus Should Be on Mount Kenya Unity

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed calls by Mount Kenya traditional elders attempting to mediate a truce between him and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Addressing congregants during a church service at PCEA Kamangu in Kikuyu Constituency, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader has made it clear that he will not attend any planned reconciliation meeting at Kenyatta’s Ichaweri home.

According to a broadcast report by A.M Media, Gachagua has urged the council of elders to redirect their mediation efforts away from him and the former Head of State.

He has emphasized that no political rift exists between them to warrant formal reconciliation.

Gachagua has pointed out that both he and Uhuru Kenyatta have already aligned their political perspectives and have spoken with one voice regarding the country’s governance direction.

He has noted that both leaders have shared a common goal of holding President William Ruto’s administration accountable and rallying the region to vote the current government out of office in 2027.

Rather than brokering unnecessary peace talks between two leaders who have already stood on the same political side, Gachagua has advised the elders to focus their energy on fostering broad political unity across the Mount Kenya region.

He has cautioned community leaders against allowing internal divisions to take root, warning that political operatives aligned with President Ruto have actively tried to fragment the vote-rich bloc for strategic advantage.

Gachagua’s outright refusal to participate in the Ichaweri peace initiative has underscored his growing confidence in his political positioning within the opposition fold.

By publicly aligning his current agenda with Kenyatta’s stance without needing a formal peace pact, the former Deputy President has sought to consolidate the Mount Kenya vote under a unified banner while resisting attempts by external forces to dictate regional leadership dynamics.
