Fresh Revelations About DJ Sumbody’s Murder Emerge at Madlanga Commission, 4 Years After His Death

The murder of popular South African DJ and businessman Oupa John Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody, has once again attracted public attention following fresh revelations at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

DJ Sumbody was gunned down on 20 November 2022 in Woodmead, Johannesburg, alongside his two bodyguards, Armand Swart and Hector Buthelezi. The shocking incident sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, leaving many questions about the people behind the deadly attack.

During testimony before the commission, controversial taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni made claims linking the musician’s murder to alleged criminal activities and longstanding violence within the taxi industry.

Sibanyoni told the inquiry that he knew DJ Sumbody through the musician’s father, who was reportedly connected to the Pretoria Mabopane Petersburg Taxi Association. He further suggested that DJ Sumbody and fellow DJ Seunkie “DJ Vettys” Mokubung may have been targeted because of their alleged associations with individuals close to him.

The commission also heard Sibanyoni’s account of alleged assassination attempts against him. He claimed to have survived two separate attacks, including one in August 2022, while describing his troubled relationships with other figures in the taxi industry.

Meanwhile, businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe and three co-accused remain central to the criminal proceedings connected to the murders of DJ Sumbody and his bodyguards. Their case has been postponed to 19 July 2027 at the Johannesburg High Court.

Although the testimony has reignited discussions about organised crime and possible connections within the taxi industry, the allegations have yet to establish who ordered or carried out the killings.

For DJ Sumbody’s family, friends and fans, the painful questions surrounding his death remain unanswered. Further proceedings at the commission could bring additional attention to the circumstances surrounding the musician’s murder.I can also create catchy, viral-style headlines for this story.
