Black November shopping frenzy: What Kenyans should know before chasing discounts
Major retailers across Kenya have extended Black Friday promotions into Black November campaigns, giving shoppers more time to buy electronics, appliances and household essentials ahead of the festive season. Naivas launched its Kikwetu Black November campaign at Nyali Centre in Mombasa on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with offers across electronics, appliances, furniture, bedding and kitchen essentials.
Retailers are advertising specific discounts. Hotpoint’s Black November listings include a Hisense soundbar reduced from Ksh27,995 to Ksh19,995 and a 32-litre toaster oven listed at Ksh12,495, down from Ksh24,995. The retailer also advertises selected televisions, fridges and freezers at reduced prices.
Carrefour also announced various Black November deals on Sunday, November 1, 2026, allowing customers to shop at great discounts. They listed foodstuff, electronics and other household items to woo buyers.
Other retail stores and chains also launched their Black November deals.
Before buying, compare promotional prices with those charged by other sellers. Check the exact model, features, condition and warranty because similar-looking products may have different specifications. A percentage-off label does not automatically mean a genuine bargain. Confirm delivery, installation and return costs, and read the promotion’s terms before paying.
The National Computer and Cybercrimes Coordination Committee advises shoppers to verify sellers beyond their adverts, check reviews and ensure payment details match the business.
Fake Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp shops may copy established retailers’ names and photographs. Be cautious of unusually low prices, pressure to pay deposits to personal M-Pesa numbers, and links sent through unsolicited messages.
Open a retailer’s website or app directly instead of following links. Confirm the recipient’s name and amount before approving payment. Never share your PIN, password or one-time verification code with a seller. Check delivery terms, warranty and refund policy before ordering.
If you suspect fraud, contact your bank or mobile-money provider through an official channel and ask how to secure your account or dispute the transaction. Keep payment messages, transaction codes, receipts, seller details, links and chat records. Report fraud to the police.
For misleading promotions, defective goods or unresolved consumer complaints, contact the Competition Authority of Kenya. The authority says remedies in qualifying cases may include refunds, replacements, repairs or withdrawal of misleading representations.
Black November offers can help shoppers plan purchases, but checking the seller, product and final price before paying remains essential.
