UDA MP Reacts After Gachagua Questioned Why He Still Pulls Crowd If Sifuna Controls Western Turf
Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has responded to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his remarks questioning Edwin Sifuna’s political influence and control over the Western Kenya voting bloc.
The UDA legislator issued his response through a statement shared on social media, where he defended his political standing and the level of support enjoyed by the ruling party in the region.
The disagreement followed Gachagua’s appearance at the launch of Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Movement, where he questioned claims that the Nairobi Senator had established strong political dominance across Western Kenya.
During his address, Gachagua challenged supporters to explain why leaders associated with President William Ruto’s administration, including Barasa, continued to attract large crowds at government functions if Sifuna had already secured control of the region.
His comments appeared to question the strength of Sifuna’s grassroots influence while highlighting the continued mobilisation efforts of UDA politicians.
Reacting to the remarks, Barasa maintained that the crowds attending government-backed political gatherings were evidence of the administration’s continued acceptance among ordinary citizens.
He argued that the turnout demonstrated public confidence in President Ruto’s leadership and his government’s economic agenda.
The Kimilili MP also expressed confidence that supporters of the ruling party remained committed to giving the administration another opportunity to complete its two-term leadership ambition.
Emphasising his position on the political situation in Western Kenya, Barasa declared that “Ground Ni mwecheche,” suggesting that the ruling party’s grassroots support remained strong.
