Otto Addo Reportedly Drags GFA to FIFA
According to a report by GhanaWeb on Saturday October 31, 2026, former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has reportedly referred his contractual dispute with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to FIFA following the termination of his appointment in March 2026.
The development comes seven months after the GFA brought his second stint as head coach of the senior national team to an end, just 72 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decision followed a disappointing series of results, including Ghana’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria and a 2-1 loss to Germany in international friendly matches ahead of the tournament.
In announcing the decision, the GFA confirmed that Addo had been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
The 50-year-old tactician had guided Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and reportedly had about 10 months remaining on his contract when the association terminated his appointment.
Although the GFA did not officially disclose the financial implications of the dismissal, reports at the time estimated that Addo could be entitled to compensation of approximately $500,000.
The former coach had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the circumstances surrounding his departure.
In an interview with German publication 11Freunde in July 2026, Addo said he struggled to understand the decision to dismiss him and suggested that the expectations of GFA President Kurt Okraku had been excessively high.
His reported decision to take the matter to FIFA could present another contractual challenge for the football governing body, which has previously faced compensation claims from former Black Stars coaches following their dismissals.
Former Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac, for example, successfully pursued a case against the GFA at FIFA, resulting in a reported settlement of $117,000.
