“ODM Must Set Conditions for Broad-Based Government Deal”: Simba Arati Tells Ruto
Kisii Governor Simba Arati has told President William Ruto that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) must establish clear conditions before agreeing to work with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under the broad-based government arrangement.
Speaking during a political gathering, Arati challenged Ruto over what he described as the need for mutual understanding and clear terms in political partnerships.
The governor used a comparison involving family relationships to drive his point home, arguing that while Ruto might choose not to impose conditions on his wife and children, ODM cannot enter into a political arrangement with UDA without setting its own terms.
“Wewe Ruto, ukitaka usiweke conditions kati yako na bibi yako na watoto wako, lakini lazima sisi ODM tuweke conditions kati yetu na UDA,” Arati said.
His remarks appeared to emphasise that ODM should not approach its working relationship with UDA without negotiating conditions that protect the party’s interests.
The statement comes amid continued political discussions surrounding the broad-based government arrangement, which has brought together leaders from the ruling coalition and sections of the opposition.
Arati’s message also highlights the debate within ODM over how the party should engage with Ruto’s administration, particularly as political leaders continue to discuss cooperation, representation and the terms of any possible partnership.
His comparison with family relationships added a direct and memorable twist to the discussion, as he insisted that political cooperation between ODM and UDA must be guided by agreed conditions.
