Mahama Has Betrayed Nkrumah’s Ideals, Addai-Sebo Makes Strong Claims Against NDC Government

A strong political debate has emerged in Ghana following criticism by Addai-Sebo, who has questioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s commitment to the political philosophy and development vision of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

In a statement dated October 30, 2026, Addai-Sebo argued that successive governments in Ghana have found it necessary to publicly recognise Nkrumah’s contributions to the country, even when their policies may not reflect his vision of national development.

He particularly questioned the government’s approach to international military cooperation, pointing to Nkrumah’s opposition to foreign military bases on African soil. According to him, allowing foreign military influence could undermine Ghana’s sovereignty and contradict the principles of Pan-Africanism and independence that Nkrumah strongly defended.

Addai-Sebo also raised concerns about what he described as the destruction of the industrial, manufacturing, agricultural, research and development foundations established during Nkrumah’s administration.

He believes these sectors were important to Nkrumah’s ambition of making Ghana economically independent rather than relying heavily on foreign countries for essential goods, technology and development.

Another issue he highlighted was the absence of Nkrumah’s books as compulsory reading materials in Ghana’s national educational curriculum. He questioned why a country that regularly celebrates Nkrumah’s legacy has not made his writings an essential part of students’ education.

He further accused the NDC and its leadership of using Nkrumah’s name without fully embracing his political and economic philosophy.

His comments have reopened conversations about Pan-Africanism, economic independence, education and the direction of Ghana’s development.

Ultimately, Addai-Sebo is challenging Ghanaian leaders to demonstrate their commitment to Nkrumah’s legacy through practical policies rather than speeches and public celebrations.
