“Meanwhile, Your Brother Owns Two Private Jets” – Botchway Reacts to Mahama’s Lamborghini Statement
Deputy NPP Communications Director and Legal Team Member, Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has reacted to President John Dramani Mahama’s comments questioning why wealthy individuals purchase expensive luxury cars such as Lamborghinis and Ferraris instead of investing the money in businesses that could create employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Friday, October 30, 2026, Kwesi Botchway Jnr challenged the President’s comments and questioned what he described as an apparent difference in how luxury is viewed when it involves people close to the government.
He argued that while President Mahama questioned the decision of wealthy young Ghanaians to spend money on expensive vehicles, the President’s brother allegedly owns two luxurious private jets and expensive cars.
Kwesi Botchway Jnr also mentioned the President’s nephew, who he claimed organises exotic car shows that the President attends as a Special Guest of Honour. He questioned why the same encouragement given to such events could not be extended to organising job fairs to create employment opportunities for young people.
He further suggested that the criticism of wealthy individuals for purchasing expensive vehicles could amount to unfair treatment. He referenced Shatta Wale, Dr Sledge and Adu Boahene, arguing that some successful individuals have faced criticism and controversies over their wealth and luxury possessions.
According to him, purchasing expensive vehicles should not automatically attract public condemnation, particularly when individuals have worked hard to achieve financial success.
Kwesi Botchway Jnr maintained that success should not be treated as a crime and warned against allowing jealousy to influence public discussions about wealth and achievement.
His comments come after President Mahama questioned the decision to spend huge amounts of money on luxury vehicles instead of investing in businesses that could employ more Ghanaians.
