“If Ablakwa Resigns, I Will Lead Demo Against It” – Akwatia MP Declares Amid GH¢49.27m Controversy

Akwatia MP Bernard Bediako Baidoo has defended Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa amid public scrutiny of the GH¢49.27 million evacuation expenditure.

Speaking on Newsfile, as reported by JoyNews on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Baidoo said the minister had earned his admiration through the way he handled matters concerning the evacuation exercise.

The lawmaker made it clear that he would oppose any move to force Ablakwa out of office over the controversy. He maintained that the minister’s actions deserved appreciation and that calls for his resignation were unwarranted.

Baidoo also made a strong declaration, saying he was ready to organise and lead a protest if Ablakwa chose to resign.

“Okudzeto Ablakwa has earned my respect. If he resigns, I will personally lead a demonstration against it,” he said.

The GH¢49.27 million evacuation expenditure has generated considerable public discussion, with Ghanaians expressing differing views about the amount spent and how the exercise was managed.

Baidoo’s intervention has introduced a new dimension to the debate, with the MP openly expressing his willingness to demonstrate in support of the minister. His comments are likely to attract further reactions as discussions about the expenditure and accountability continue.
