Ida Odinga Breaks Silence Over Her Whereabouts as ODM Marked ‘Mwezi wa Baba’ at Jacaranda Grounds
Mama Ida Odinga has explained where she was as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders and supporters gathered at Nairobi’s Jacaranda Grounds on Saturday, October 31, for the final day of Mwezi wa Baba celebrations.
In a Facebook post, Ida revealed that she had attended a thrift pop-up event at Lifestyle Market, where she interacted with Kenyan traders and entrepreneurs involved in buying and selling different items.
Her appearance at the market came as thousands of ODM supporters gathered at Jacaranda Grounds for an event organised to celebrate the legacy of her late husband, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, popularly known as Baba.
While several senior political figures attended the Nairobi rally, including Governor Johnson Sakaja, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Ida shared moments from her engagement with small-scale business operators.
She explained that the visit gave her an opportunity to interact with enterprising Kenyans whose businesses reflect the determination and creativity of ordinary citizens working to improve their livelihoods.
“I had the pleasure of attending a thrift pop-up at Lifestyle Market, where I interacted with many vibrant and enterprising Kenyans engaged in buying and selling,” she wrote.
Ida also praised the entrepreneurial spirit displayed by the participants, highlighting the importance of recognising people who continue to create opportunities through their daily activities.
“It was inspiring to witness the creativity, resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of our people as we celebrate the hustle and innovation that keep our communities moving,” she added.
She further connected her participation in the event to the ongoing Mwezi wa Baba celebrations, noting that Raila’s legacy should also be remembered through the people whose interests he championed throughout his political career.
“As we bring Baba’s Month to a close, we continue to celebrate his legacy and the people he stood for,” Ida stated.
Her post offered an insight into how she marked the final day of the month-long celebrations, choosing to spend time with traders and entrepreneurs at Lifestyle Market as ODM supporters gathered at Jacaranda Grounds.
The two engagements reflected different aspects of the Mwezi wa Baba commemoration, with the Nairobi rally bringing together political leaders and supporters while Ida’s visit focused on ordinary Kenyans and their economic activities.
