Dennis Miracles: NDC Officials And Other Party Members Are The Ones Doing Galamsey

The National Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, during an interview on Joy News on Saturday October 31, 2026 accused members and executives of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in Ghana.

His allegation has reignited political discussions surrounding the fight against illegal mining and the involvement of individuals affiliated with the country’s major political parties in activities that continue to threaten the environment.

According to Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the NDC cannot completely distance itself from the galamsey menace while some of its members and executives are allegedly involved in illegal mining activities.

His comments have brought renewed attention to the responsibilities of political parties and their leadership in addressing the environmental crisis associated with illegal mining.

Galamsey remains one of Ghana’s most pressing environmental challenges, with illegal mining activities contributing to the destruction of forest reserves, pollution of major water bodies and degradation of agricultural lands.

The activities have also raised concerns about the long-term availability of clean drinking water and the livelihoods of communities that depend on rivers and other natural resources.

Aboagye’s allegations have added another political dimension to the national conversation, particularly as successive governments have faced criticism over their efforts to tackle illegal mining.

The NPP and NDC have frequently exchanged accusations over which party bears greater responsibility for the continued spread of galamsey across the country.

The NPP communications director’s remarks are likely to generate further debate about whether political affiliations have influenced the enforcement of laws against illegal mining.

They also raise questions about the willingness of political leaders to hold their own members accountable when allegations of involvement in environmentally destructive activities emerge.

However, the allegations against the NDC members and executives require independent verification, and any individuals found culpable should be subjected to the appropriate legal processes.

As the political debate continues, Ghanaians will be watching to see whether the country’s political leadership can move beyond accusations and demonstrate a genuine commitment to ending illegal mining, regardless of the political affiliation of those involved.
