Eight dead in bus crash at Azuletti on Elubo-Takorai N1 highway

Eight people died on Thursday in a bus crash at Azuletti near Samenye, along the Elubo–Takoradi N1 Highway in the Western Region.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from Elubo who responded to the distress call were able to rescue 21 passengers following the fatal collision between an Ivorian passenger bus and a parked Burkinabè passenger bus.‎‎The crash occurred on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at about 7:26 p.m., when the Ivorian bus with registration number, AB-415-AN travelling towards Benin, rammed into the rear of the parked bus with registration number, KJA-5604J, which had obstructed one lane of the highway.

Seven people were pronounced dead at the scene and the eighth person died later at the hospital.

The GNFS said preliminary investigations suggested that speeding may have contributed to the crash.‎‎The injured passengers were transported to the hospital for treatment, while the deceased were handed over to the police.
