8 People Confirmed Dead After Ivorian Bus Crashes Into Parked Burkinabè Bus in Ghana

A tragic road accident has claimed eight lives after a passenger bus travelling from Ivory Coast crashed into a parked Burkinabè bus along the Elubo–Takoradi Highway in Ghana’s Western Region.

The accident, which happened at Azuletti near Samenye on Thursday, October 29, 2026, has left several people injured and raised fresh concerns about road safety, speeding and the dangers facing motorists who use the busy highway.

According to the information released about the incident, the crash occurred at approximately 7:26 pm. The Ivorian passenger bus reportedly crashed into a Burkinabè bus that was parked along the road.

The impact was severe, leaving passengers trapped and requiring an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service.

Firefighters who arrived at the scene worked to rescue passengers from the wreckage. A total of 21 passengers were rescued during the operation, while emergency teams also assisted those who had suffered injuries.

Sadly, seven victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger later died at the hospital, bringing the total number of deaths to eight.

Those who survived the crash but sustained injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Their condition has not been fully disclosed in the available report.

Preliminary investigations have suggested that speeding may have contributed to the accident. However, the exact cause has not yet been established, and further investigations will be needed to determine what happened before the two buses collided.

The accident has once again drawn attention to road safety along major highways in Ghana, particularly routes used by commercial vehicles travelling between Ghana and neighbouring countries.

Speeding remains a serious concern because drivers who fail to control their speed may have little time to react when they encounter an unexpected situation on the road. Parking vehicles in unsafe locations can also create danger for other motorists, especially at night when visibility may be limited.

For families of the victims, the news is a painful reminder of how quickly an ordinary journey can turn into a tragedy.
