They Want To Destroy Us Chiefs Captain Exposes Evil Plot To Distract Amakhosi Before Soweto Derby

PETERSEN BREAKS SILENCE! Kaizer Chiefs Captain Reveals How Amakhosi Are Blocking Outside Noise Ahead of Soweto Derby

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA β€” 30 OCTOBER 2026

Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen has revealed how the Amakhosi dressing room is dealing with growing criticism and external pressure as the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates approaches.

The Chiefs goalkeeper insists that the players are determined to remain focused on their responsibilities rather than allowing negative comments and outside opinions to affect their preparations for Saturday’s highly anticipated showdown at FNB Stadium.

The build-up to the derby has been accompanied by intense scrutiny of Chiefs’ performances, with supporters and football analysts questioning the team’s consistency and the work of head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

However, Petersen believes that criticism should not determine how players view themselves or their abilities.

Speaking during the pre-derby media conference, the Chiefs skipper explained the importance of maintaining a strong mentality when representing one of South Africa’s biggest football clubs.

“I think the most important thing for me is to know that those words and negative stuff going around doesn’t define me as a person, as a footballer, because I’m much more than that,” Petersen said.

He further explained that understanding one’s identity and values makes it easier to deal with pressure and criticism.

“It’s important to know who you are and what you stand for. When you get that right, nothing else that’s happening around you really fazes you.”

Petersen also acknowledged that criticism is part of playing for a club with the history, expectations and massive supporter base of Kaizer Chiefs.

“Noise is noise,” he stated, adding that people are entitled to their opinions.

According to the goalkeeper, supporters naturally demand results, particularly when a club of Chiefs’ stature goes through difficult periods.

However, he believes the team’s development should also be considered when evaluating its performances.

“The noise also comes from people wanting results. When you are at Chiefs, results are important, but the journey is also important,” Petersen explained.

The Amakhosi captain also defended the progress made under Da Cruz, pointing towards improvements in the team’s style of football.

He admitted that converting scoring opportunities remains a major concern, suggesting that Chiefs could have collected more points had they been more clinical in front of goal.

“If you had converted half the chances we created in the games where we dropped points, we would be talking a different story,” he added.

Saturday’s Soweto Derby presents Chiefs with another opportunity to turn improved performances into a significant result.

With Petersen expected to lead the team, Amakhosi will be determined to silence their critics, overcome their traditional rivals and give their supporters something to celebrate.

For the Chiefs captain, the message is simple: ignore the noise, trust the process and let performances on the pitch do the talking.
