Sibisi Exposes What Is Actually Happening In The Pirates Dressing Room After Ouaddou’s Outburst

Sibisi Breaks Silence on Ouaddou’s Controversial Pirates Comments Ahead of Soweto Derby

Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi has come out in defence of head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou following recent criticism of the team’s attacking performance, insisting that the Moroccan tactician’s comments have been misunderstood.

Ouaddou attracted attention after expressing his disappointment with Pirates despite their convincing 3-0 victory over Milford FC in the Carling Knockout Cup. The Buccaneers secured qualification for the quarter-finals, but their coach was unhappy with the number of opportunities they failed to convert.

Pirates created 24 scoring chances during the encounter, yet managed to find the back of the net only three times. For Ouaddou, that was not good enough for a club with ambitions of competing for major domestic and continental honours.

His remarks sparked discussions among supporters, with some questioning why a coach would publicly criticise his players after such a comfortable victory. However, Sibisi believes the message behind the comments was about maintaining high standards rather than expressing dissatisfaction with the team’s efforts.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs, the Pirates skipper explained that the players understood exactly what their coach was trying to communicate.

“I think our coach has been misinterpreted, it’s the standard he’s set at the club, to say if we can score eight, why score three and be settled for that? We need to try and push, get as many goals as we can,” Sibisi explained.

The defender further indicated that the players had received the coach’s message positively, with no signs of frustration within the dressing room. Instead, the squad understands that there is always room for improvement, particularly when it comes to taking advantage of scoring opportunities.

Sibisi’s comments also highlight the mentality Ouaddou is attempting to establish at Orlando Pirates. The coach wants his players to remain hungry throughout matches, regardless of how comfortable their position might be.

With the Soweto Derby approaching, the Buccaneers will have another opportunity to demonstrate their attacking quality against their biggest rivals.

Pirates have enjoyed an encouraging start to the campaign, and Sibisi believes maintaining their momentum will be important as they prepare for one of the biggest fixtures in South African football.

The captain’s public backing of Ouaddou also sends a clear message that the players remain united behind their coach’s demanding approach.

For the Buccaneers, the objective is not simply to win matches, but to deliver performances that reflect the expectations attached to the Orlando Pirates badge.
