We won’t steal from Ghana to share – Asiedu Nketiah’s son hits back at stingy tag

We won’t steal from Ghana to share – Asiedu Nketiah’s son hits back at stingy tag

Tano South MP Charles Asiedu has defended his family against claims that they are stingy, insisting that he and his father, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, will not steal public funds to satisfy people with cash handouts.

The MP said he prioritises accountability and delivering on his mandate over using money to please constituents.

Charles Asiedu explained that he only fully understood why some people described his family as stingy after he entered public office, arguing that their refusal to distribute money should not be mistaken for an unwillingness to help people.

“I have heard people say that my family is stingy. When I became a Member of Parliament, I began to understand things properly.

“What I have noticed is that, in the way we go about our jobs, we simply do not know how to steal from the nation. We do not know how to use the positions entrusted to us by the citizens of this country to steal from the state and accumulate enough money to share with people,” he said.

“I have accounted for every penny in my statutory fund. If I have accounted for how I spend the money and my salary is finished, where would I get money to share with the public?

I just do my job. I don’t think much about the next election. I have four years to work. I do what I can and account for it properly. Every penny is accounted for, and we know where it was spent,” he added.

The Tano South MP also said he does not spend his time worrying about the next election, believing that politicians who focus on their responsibilities and deliver visible development projects can earn the electorate’s support through their performance.

He argued that trying to satisfy every financial request from constituents could pressure politicians to misuse public funds.

According to Charles Asiedu, his priority is to leave office with a clear conscience and account for his stewardship, rather than compromise his principles to please people.
