Uniform Is Not Content: General Warns Officers Against TikTok Fame

Brigadier General Worlanyo Agbebo, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, has cautioned military officers against misusing their uniforms on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, stressing that such conduct breeds indiscipline and undermines the integrity of the military uniform.

The warning came during a durbar with officers and personnel under the Northern Command, where the General addressed growing concerns about the conduct of some service personnel online. He noted that an increasing number of officers have been spotted in viral videos dancing, performing comic skits and engaging in unprofessional displays while dressed in military attire, a trend he described as deeply troubling.

Brigadier General Agbebo reminded the personnel that the uniform is a symbol of national authority, discipline and sacrifice, and must never be reduced to a prop for entertainment or social media fame. He explained that such conduct not only erodes public confidence in the armed forces but also exposes the institution to ridicule and could compromise operational security.

He further warned that the command will not hesitate to sanction personnel found flouting regulations governing the use of military uniforms and the conduct of service personnel on social media. Officers were urged to familiarise themselves with the existing rules and to project the values of the Ghana Armed Forces at all times, whether in person or online. The General also encouraged personnel to use social media responsibly, noting that digital platforms can be valuable tools for education, recruitment and positive public engagement when used appropriately.

The caution has been welcomed by some personnel, who acknowledged that the pressure to gain online popularity has led a few of their colleagues to cross professional lines. They expressed hope that the warning would serve as a wake-up call and restore discipline within the ranks.

Brigadier General Agbebo ended his address by calling on unit commanders to monitor the conduct of their personnel and to instil in them a sense of pride and responsibility in wearing the uniform. The command is expected to roll out sensitisation sessions on social media conduct in the coming weeks.
